From January 17th through February 20th our gallery walls will be filled with a collection of photos and displays of Waldo County 4-H members and leaders (and their animals!). Under the supervision of Marilyn Schofield, one of the county’s 4-H leaders, Nicole, Shaynen and Mackensie Schofield put together a pictorial overview of 4-H activities which center around agriculture, ag shows and wood science.
When hanging the show with Marilyn, her daughter Tiffany, and five youth members (most grandchildren of Marilyn), we learned that Marilyn’s family started leading 4-H clubs in the early 1900's.
“My grandmother Clements was the leader. My mother was a member and then became a leader as my siblings and I grew up. My mother also helped as my husband and I organized our club in 1975. We worked through our children growing up - then I began to have health issues and took time off. Ten years later we picked the club up again with our grandchildren and are still working with it,” Marilyn proudly recounted.
Connie Tuller - a leader of another club in the county – brings her presence to the show with the wonderful rooster painting on the “Poultry” wall.
Be sure to also check out the window, which houses a great educational display created by youth members on the growth of lambs.
Maine Farmland Trust Gallery is delighted to welcome the next generation of farming folk onto its walls.
