Market Development

New forms of infrastructure and consumer outreach are needed to grow demand for local food and to expand markets for Maine farmers.

Are you part of an organization thinking about creating your own food hub? Or a local official exploring what your community could do to support the farmers in your area by creating new infrastructure?  We provide guidance and technical assistance to entrepreneurial organizations and communities exploring new ventures to grow our local food system.

Bangor Region Food Hub

A consortium of six organizations and municipal entities led by the Orono Economic Development Corporation engaged MFT to conduct research about the viability, feasibility, and sustainability of a food hub in the Bangor area to serve wholesale markets. To find out more about this project, visit the website. For more information about how MFT can support your food hub efforts, contact us!

Maine Food For UMaine

The Maine Food for UMaine project aims to assist the Maine farmers in building profitable, consistent markets, and increase access healthful local foods by working with the University of Maine system to develop opportunities for local farmers as part of UMaine’s next food service contract. MFT was part of the steering committee for this initiative, alongside Farm to Institution New England, Real Food Challenge, and Environment Maine.

Let's grow a bright future for farming in Maine, together.
