About the Artist

A plein air painter of the first degree, Thomas Higgins’ enthusiasm for his subject- usually a respectful view of a solitary Maine prospect- and his interest in technique, applying paint quickly before the moment passes, has propelled him to the front ranks of contemporary Maine landscape painters. Higgins resides in Readfield, is Professor Emeritus at the University of Maine at Farmington, and has shown throughout the U.S. and abroad. His paintings are currently on display at U.S. embassies in Paris, France and Athens, Greece. In 2014 he was chosen Artist-in-Residence at Acadia National Park and 2016 as Artist-in-Residence at the Joseph A. Fiore Art Center at Rolling Acres Farm.
