About the Artist
Although Kris Engman’s artistic focus was as a figurative sculptor for over 2 decades, for the past 15 years, she has painted the Maine landscape based on her observations of
“ the simplest of still lives found in rural America “.
Going beyond the traditions typical of landscape painting, her work often includes a connection to farmers, farm animals and people living in small, Maine towns. Her painting is an expresssion of color, shape, design and pattern in a balance that feels linked to daily routines and seasonal events within communities.
In addition, her interest in sustainable living has lead to collaborations with other artists and arts organizations to bring attention to local farm life and its significant role as part of Maine’s future.
Kerstin Engman teaches drawing and design at the University of Maine in Orono.
