Maine Local Foods Access Network
Maine Local Foods Access Network’s vision is that everyone in Maine has access to the abundance of food from Maine producers.
We lead this coalition of Maine organizations committed to growing access to local food in various ways. MLFAN’s current priority is expanding Maine Harvest Bucks, nutrition incentives that increase the value of federal nutrition assistance dollars spent at participating farmers markets, CSAs, and retail outlets selling local produce.
Organizations in MLFAN include 5210 Let’s Go, Cultivating Community, Good Shepherd Food Bank, Healthy Acadia, Maine Farmland Trust, Maine Federation of Farmers’ Markets, Maine SNAP-Ed, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), St. Mary’s Nutrition Center, and Wholesome Wave. We are a part of the National Nutrition Incentive Network.
How do incentive programs like Maine Harvest Bucks benefit consumers? A number of studies have found that nutrition incentives helped increase vegetable consumption for shoppers with low levels of education and low levels of produce consumption. Read more on Wholesome Wave’s website.
