Rolling Acres Farm is a breathtaking 130-acre farm property located on Damariscotta Lake in the town of Jefferson. The setting is remote and peaceful, but not far from the lively and picturesque village of Damariscotta. Behind the elegant farmhouse and connected barn, an old dirt road curves down to the lake, through open rolling fields.
The farmhouse at the Joseph A. Fiore Art Center is spacious and beautifully renovated. The home, while retaining many period features, is equipped with a modern kitchen, spacious sunlit living quarters, and a dining area with an 8-foot reclaimed barn board table built by a local craftsman.
In addition to the spacious living/dining area, there is an 500 square ft. gallery space with antique wood flooring. The space lends itself perfectly to group gatherings, meetings, yoga classes and the like.
There are four bedrooms with full or queen beds (all with additional sleeping options such as roll-away beds and day beds), three bathrooms with bath or shower, and one additional powder room off the kitchen. There are also two additional rooms with futon couches, which can serve as extra bedrooms when the facility is rented in its entirety. Rolling Acres can accommodate six guests in private rooms, twelve in shared rooms, and up to eighteen if guests are sharing double beds.
There are two unheated studio spaces in the barn, and two heated studio spaces in the house (the latter can only accommodate limited art materials. Please see our guest handbook for more details).
The mission of the Joseph A. Fiore Art Center at Rolling Acres Farm is to actively connect the creative worlds of farming and art making. We welcome, for example:
- Artists, writers and other creatives looking for an individual retreat for a few days, a week or more;
- Leaders within agricultural, environmental, educational and creative organizations looking for a personal retreat to write grants, work plans or vision a next phase for their organization;

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When are the Fiore Art Center artist residencies in session?
Artist residencies are in session from July 1st through September 30th – during this time, there are no rentals possible to individuals or groups, but we welcome visitors to our gallery exhibit and our Open Studio Days (see here for gallery hours and event listings).
When can I rent the entire facility for a group retreat?
The entire facility is available for rent from early October through late April (specific dates can be found on our calendar).
When can I rent individual rooms?
Individual rooms are for rent from early October through late June, whenever the facility is not rented to larger groups. Please check out this page
Why can’t I rent the entire facility during May or June?
We have a Resident Gardener who lives at the farm from May through September. Therefore, one of the bedrooms is already occupied for May and June. If your group is small and does not need the fourth bedroom, and it is not prohibitive that our Resident Gardener is living and working on the farm, then group rentals during the months of May and June can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
How do I book an individual room or a group retreat?
First, check our calendar for availability. Once you place a request to book you will be contacted by Fiore Art Center Co-Director Anna Witholt Abaldo to finalize the booking.
Are meals included?
Meals are not included in individual or group rentals. You will have to bring your own food, or go out to eat in nearby Damariscotta, Newcastle or other towns (see here for a guide on things to do and places to eat). For those planning a group retreat, we can help you connect with local caterers who are familiar with our kitchen and audience, and take pride in using locally sourced ingredients.
