MOFGA and Maine Farmland Trust are collaborating again to create a regular Maine Produce Market Report this year, and we need farmers to provide input for each report. We are looking for ~15 farmers who sell a diversity of fruit and/or produce to wholesale as well as direct-to-consumer markets who can commit to filling out a google form (~10 minutes) once every other week through the growing season. Farmers will be paid, and your anonymous responses will be shared with report readers. If you’re interested in this opportunity, please read on and fill out the application. In light of requests to make the report more transparent, we have created this application process to give more farmers the opportunity to participate.
Goals of the Maine Produce Market Report
- Provide data and information for farmers and wholesale buyers to utilize in their business and marketing decisions
- Be an efficient, timely tool for communication between farmers and buyers about supply and demand
- Create a place for farmers and buyers to voice their observations, questions or thoughts on topics relevant to the current market or market conditions
Report Logistics and Compensation
We plan to publish 13 reports, every other week, from late April through mid-October. On Mondays during report weeks, you’ll receive a link to this Google Form with questions about your observations on supply and demand. We expect it will take about ten minutes to fill out for the market channels you sell to, and you’ll need to fill it out by end of day Wednesday. The questions will stay the same. For your time, we are able to offer a stipend of $15 per submission (up to a total of $195 for 13 submissions over the season) and you are expected to submit responses for nearly all reports.
Respondents will be selected across a range of size, scale, markets, and regions of Maine. Respondents are required to be commercial farms, who have been a past participant of a MOFGA or MFT program, and have well-established wholesale sales relationships. When the Reports are published to the Google Group, there will likely be many hundred subscribers/readers of each Report, who will then have the opportunity to engage and respond within the online platform of each Report.
Applications to contributed to the Maine Produce Market Report are now closed.
