“Having the unobstructed freedom to come and go as I please has resulted in the opportunity to focus on subject matter not explored in recent years, and the chance to get to know a few locations intimately. It took about a week to settle down and find my personal handwriting and language as a painter, but I feel that progress was made. The final week was dedicated to drawing (just pencil on rag paper) and this process/discipline forced me to be more sensitive to mark making and to make more thoughtful decisions about economy of pattern, gradation of value etc.”
