Rolling Acres Farm

Rolling Acres Farm is a breathtaking, 130-acre farm property located on Damariscotta Lake in the town of Jefferson. The setting is remote and peaceful, but not far from the lively and picturesque village of Damariscotta. Behind the farmhouse and connected barn, an old dirt road curves down to the lake, through open rolling fields frequently visited by wildlife – a perfect setting for contemplation and retreat.

MFT acquired Rolling Acres in 2011, with the goal of protecting the land and selling it to a farmer. When after several years a buyer was not found, MFT decided to expand its work of “celebrating agriculture through art” from MFT’s Gallery in Belfast to Rolling Acres Farm. In 2016, the Joseph A. Fiore Art Center’s artist residency program took root at the farm – named after generous MFT supporter, environmentalist and artist Joseph Fiore (1925-2008).

One of MFT’s goals is to bring farming back to Rolling Acres, alongside the Fiore Art Center’s residency program. In 2017, we welcomed our first resident gardener who lived on site from May through September and started a kitchen garden to feed our residents. In 2018, we hosted a Food Forest Design Intensive in collaboration with Midcoast Permaculture. This public workshop generated design ideas for a possible extension of MFT’s Veggies For All program on Rolling Acres Farm.

The history of Rolling Acres Farm was beautifully documented by Sarah Loftus, the recipient of our 2017 historical writing residency. Follow this link to order your own copy, complete with illustrations by many of our 2016 & 2017 artists in residence.

Rolling Acres Farm is available for rent when our summer residencies are not in session.
