For the past 200 years, Spring Brook Farm has been providing fresh, healthy food for our local community. Located in the heart of Cumberland on Greely Road, the farm produces grass-fed beef and lamb, cage-free chickens and eggs without hormones and antibiotics, as well as a large variety of fresh produce, dairy products, bread and other pantry goods. The farm market, which is open daily, provides easily accessible products for all of the community to enjoy.
For multiple generations, the Blanchard and Fowler families have loved, cared for and worked this land. Now, Jeff Storey is carrying on the farming tradition at Spring Brook Farm into the future. Spring Brook Farm is committed to helping build community, providing fresh and healthy food and being a responsible steward of the local farmland and its surrounding ecosystem. Sustainable farming practices used at the farm protect soil health, promote biodiversity, and support a healthy bee population.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
MFT and Chebeague & Cumberland Land Trust are partnering with Jeff Storey to purchase an abutting 25-acre field from the Town of Cumberland to add the land back into Spring Brook Farm and protect it from development forever. We heard the rallying speeches supporting farmland conservation and we are ready to help!
In our rapidly developing community, this is a rare and critical opportunity to support local agriculture. Not only do we enjoy the delicious bounty of Spring Brook Farm and respect its deep historical significance in our community, but the farm also protects scenic views along Greely Road and supports the legacy and long-term sustainability of our town.
MFT and CCLT have embarked on a campaign to raise $220,000 to purchase an agricultural conservation easement and protect this farmland forever. We have all of the ingredients to make this project a success – a willing seller, a committed farmer, two land trusts, a field with statewide significant soils, a diversified farming operation, and now we need you to support the conservation of the 25-acre Spring Brook Farm field with your donation.
Use the form below to make a contribution. If you would like to mail a check, please address it to Maine Farmland Trust (97 Main Street, Belfast, ME 04915).
