Farmland Protection and Stewardship Administrative Assistant

The Farmland Protection and Stewardship Administrative Assistant provides general support for the operations of Maine Farmland Trust’s Farmland Protection and Stewardship Departments.

Location: This is a full-time position that can be based out of MFT’s Portland or Belfast office with travel required between offices and possibility for some remote work.

Salary Range: $19.23/hour - $21.63/hour ($40,000-$45,000)

MFT Farmland Protection Project Manager/NRCS Easement Specialist

This position, initially funded through a cooperative agreement with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), offers a unique opportunity to work closely with Maine Farmland Trust and NRCS, supporting the promotion and administration of NRCS easement programs, including the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program – Agricultural Land Easements (ACEP-ALE) and the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP). This role involves gaining familiarity with NRCS policies and guidance regarding conservation easement program implementation.

The Project Manager/Easement Specialist will be employed and supervised by MFT staff as a member of MFT’s Farmland Protection team, while working closely and learning from NRCS staff.

Location: This full-time position can be based out of Maine Farmland Trust’s Portland or Belfast office, or can be remote but must remain based in Maine. The position will also be expected to work out of the NRCS Bangor office to some extent. Final candidates must complete a background check authorization. Post-hire onboarding will be conducted by both MFT and NRCS staff.

Salary Range: $64,251

The board of directors of Maine Farmland Trust (MFT) seeks a passionate advocate and inspiring leader to serve as president and CEO. Maine Farmland Trust protects farmland, supports farmers, and advances the future of farming in Maine. The overarching goal of this respected nonprofit is to protect Maine farmland and revitalize Maine’s rural landscape by keeping agricultural lands working and helping farmers and communities thrive.

The president and CEO oversees and guides strategy for public engagement and philanthropy and works in close collaboration with MFT’s leadership team to advance the organization’s strategic vision, deepening its impact. The president and CEO is instrumental in broadening MFT’s base of support, inspiring new levels of public and private commitment and enduring partnerships, including through the planning and execution of comprehensive fundraising campaigns; further magnifying farmers’ voices; and accelerating the changes needed to serve Maine farmers, secure Maine farmland, and protect Maine’s future. This individual partners with MFT’s leadership team on aspects related to financial management, programming, advocacy, farmer engagement, stewardship and board and staff development.

Location: This position can be based out of Maine Farmland Trust’s Portland or Belfast office.

Salary Range: The president and CEO will earn a competitive salary of $170,000 - $185,000, commensurate with experience, and benefits including a group health plan, group vision and dental plans, a 401(K) retirement plan, wellness and farm share benefits, and paid vacation, holidays and other forms of paid time-off. The successful candidate can expect a formal review after the initial six months, as well as an annual review thereafter.

We offer a possible salary range describing the level of compensation we’d expect to offer for the advertised position. In addition to competitive pay, MFT offers several benefits to its employees, including a group health plan, group vision and dental plans, 4 weeks of paid vacation at the start of employment, 13 paid holidays/year plus a week-long office closure at the end of the summer, a 401(k) Retirement Plan, wellness and farm share benefits, and other forms of paid time-off. Benefits correspond to full-time employment, but are also offered to part-time employees on a prorated basis.
