Over the past 10 years, the Buckle Farm in Unity, Maine has grown from a scrappy start-up to a thriving diversified vegetable business that feeds everyone, from food pantries to farm-to-table restaurants.
Since 1999, with the generous support of our donors, Maine Farmland Trust has directly worked with over 500 farms to help farmers access farmland, protect and steward their farmland, grow more resilient businesses, and respond to evolving challenges. This includes permanently protecting 390 farms and nearly 58,000 acres of farmland from non-agricultural development, so that our rich agricultural soils, open spaces, and natural resources can sustain farmers and our communities for generations to come.
