Agricultural Land Reclamation Field Walk and Workshop

November 20 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Join David Rocque, Maine State Soil Scientist, Andrew Marshall, MFT Research Fellow, and farmers Graham and Emily Mallory for a discussion and demonstration of agricultural land reclamation. Over the past 5 years, Graham and Emily have reclaimed 100 acres of woodland from the former Great Farm in Jackson, developing a diversified silvopasture operation and employing management-intensive rotational grazing. Dave Rocque will be armed with his soil auger and his decades of experience assessing and ground-truthing landscapes’ suitability for agriculture. This event is a companion to our November 7th Webinar.

This event with be co-hosted by MFT and the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, & Forestry.

No registration required.

***DRIVING DIRECTIONS***

Meet at the Great Farm Road, just off Route 7 in Jackson.  If you’re coming from the NORTH the Great Farm Road is on the LEFT, about 6 miles south of route 9/202, just past the Jackson Town Office.  If you’re coming from the SOUTH, it’s on the RIGHT about 3 miles north of 139/Brooks village, just past the little bridge over the Great Farm Brook. Park on the right side of the road, we’ll meet there and walk in to the farm since there isn’t a lot of space for parking up near the house.
