MAINE FARMLAND TRUST HAS THE FOLLOWING PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE:

RESIDENT GARDENER at Joseph A. Fiore Art Center (Seasonal, Part-Time): Maine Farmland Trust (MFT) is seeking an individual with two years of organic gardening experience to develop a kitchen garden for the Fiore Art Center’s artists-in-residence, tend the flower garden, as well as cover host functions for the Fiore Art Center.

This position will ideally begin May 1 and end September 30, but with the right candidate there is flexibility to begin later in May or end earlier in September. The Resident Gardener would be living at the Fiore Art Center at Rolling Acres Farm, Jefferson for the duration of this position. See Job Description here.

VEGGIES FOR ALL, CREW LEADER (PART-TIME/SEASONAL)Veggies For All (VFA) is a 2.5 acre food bank farm in Unity, Maine that addresses hunger in our community through sustainable food production, gleaning, and hands-on education. We raise about 20,000 lbs of organically grown vegetables for 1,500 food pantry clients in 25 towns across Central Maine each season. This summer will be our 10th season, and we’re excited to welcome a Crew Leader to our seasonal staff to help us keep up the good work!

The Crew Leader position is geared toward someone with a baseline of sustainable farming experience who is interested in developing their leadership skills on a small-scale, mission-driven, production oriented vegetable farm. The Crew Leader will work closely with VFA’s Program/Farm Manager and the rest of the VFA crew and be responsible for facilitating farm tasks whenever the Farm Manager is not present. The ideal candidate has had at least 2 seasons of experience working on ecologically-minded vegetable farms, works well independently and as part of a team, and is capable of making an immediate contribution to the crew.

On our end, we expect to provide a supportive, educational, and rewarding experience that can serve as a valuable stepping stone for a young farmer looking to take the next step toward proficiency in small-scale food production. See Job Description here.

Our summer field crew is the backbone of the farm. Field crew work closely with VFA’s Program Manager, Crew Leader, and volunteers to help with all aspects of our small-scale, mission-driven, production-oriented vegetable operation including seedling care, planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, packing, and delivery.

Field crew positions are geared toward folks who have had at least one previous season of experience on a small-scale, sustainably managed vegetable farm, community garden, or large market garden and want to continue developing their farming practice. We’re eager to work with aspiring food producers who have positive attitudes, enjoy working outdoors, and share our passion for improving food access through community-powered farming.  See Job Description here.
