It is MFT’s practice to set compensation amounts that align with the successful candidate’s experience. We offer a possible salary range describing the level of compensation we’d expect to offer for the advertised position. In addition to competitive pay, MFT offers several benefits to its employees, including a group health plan, group vision and dental plans, 4 weeks of paid vacation at the start of employment, 13 paid holidays/year plus a week-long office closure at the end of the summer, a 401(k) Retirement Plan, wellness and farm share benefits, and other forms of paid time-off. This benefits information corresponds to full-time employment with benefits, but is also offered to part-time employees on a prorated basis.

MFT is currently hiring for the following positions:

  • Farmland Protection Project Manager; Portland or Belfast, Maine ($45,000 – $50,000)
  • Municipal Policy Associate; Portland or Belfast, Maine or remote in Maine ($40,000 – $45,000)
  • Content Creator and Digital Communities Associate; Portland or Belfast, Maine or remote in Maine ($40,000 – $45,000)

Farmland Protection Project Manager (Portland or Belfast, Maine)

A Farmland Protection Project Manager develops and oversees projects designed to protect farmland with agricultural conservation easements, and is engaged in a wide range of activities that include: negotiating donations of conservation easements, purchasing conservation easements, and purchasing farm properties (that MFT will protect and then re-sell to farmers). Project managers are also involved in prospecting for and generating new farmland protection projects. Since multiple project managers are being hired the primary geographic area of focus for this work will be established after hire, and is likely to include other areas of the state. This position can be based in MFT’s Portland or Belfast office or remotely as long as in Maine. Occasional travel to MFT’s offices and regular travel to project sites is required as necessary.

Municipal Policy Associate (Portland or Belfast, Maine, or remote in Maine)

The Municipal Policy Associate manages Maine Farmland Trust (MFT)’s efforts to provide information and technical assistance to municipal officials and communities across the state that want to enact municipal policies or engage in planning processes to better support farming and farmland protection efforts within their communities.

This position can be based out of Maine Farmland Trust’s Portland office, Belfast office, or be remote; but the candidate must be based in and remain in Maine.

Salary Range: $40,000 to $45,000

Employment Term: This position is funded by a two-year grant.

Content Creator and Digital Communities Associate (Portland or Belfast, Maine, or remote in Maine)

The Content Creator produces content that supports engagement and communication strategies across the organization. The Associate is responsible for implementing Maine Farmland Trust’s brand and voice, and for managing social media communities across all MFT platforms.

This position can be based out of Maine Farmland Trust’s Portland office, Belfast office, or be remote; but the candidate must be based in and remain in Maine.
