Rootdown Party at South Paw Farm
RESCHEDULED DATE: Tuesday, September 21
4 – 7 PM
Celebrate thriving farms! Come learn how MFT’s Farm Viability program helps farms thrive, and hear what Meg and Ryan Mitchell at South Paw Farm are doing to grow their farm business through business planning, climate mitigation, and farmland protection. Tour the vegetable fields and learn more about the long-term investments these farmers are making to adapt to climate change. Live music by Toki Oshima and John Pranio! BYO picnic supplies and chairs or blankets, but we’ll have Oxbow Brewing Co. Farmland beer and Oyster River Winegrowers wines, and lemonade. South Paw is also setting up a full farmstand with seasonal veggies, and their own delicious salsas and chili sauce! Stock up or enjoy with your picnic!
South Paw Farm is a Forever Farm that recently completed MFT’s Farming for Wholesale program, which helps farmers participate in, or scale up for, wholesale markets through ongoing farm business planning assistance. Farming for Wholesale connects farmers with businesses, financial, and marketing advisors, as well as other farmers, to hone financial record keeping, analyze scenarios for scaling up their business, and write a strong business plan that reflects their goals. Farmers who complete Farming for Wholesale are eligible to submit their business plan to compete for an implementation grant of up to $50,000. South Paw is also a participant in the Maine Soil Health Network, a new project for farmers to learn which soil health practices work for their farm, and connect them to a network of other farms across the region to share resources and information.
Please note that due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Maine, masks will be required at this event. Thank you for understanding.
We look forward to seeing you there!
