Rootdown Party at South Paw Farm
Wednesday, September 15
4 – 7 PM
Celebrate thriving farms! Come learn how MFT’s Farm Viability program helps farms thrive, and hear what Meg and Ryan Mitchell at South Paw Farm are doing to grow their farm business through business planning, climate mitigation, and farmland protection. Tour the vegetable fields and learn more about the long-term investments these farmers are making to adapt to climate change. BYO picnic supplies, but we’ll have Oxbow Brewing Co. Farmland beer and Oyster River Winegrowers wines, and lemonade.
South Paw Farm is a Forever Farm that recently completed MFT’s Farming for Wholesale program, which helps farmers participate in, or scale up for, wholesale markets through ongoing farm business planning assistance. Farming for Wholesale connects farmers with businesses, financial, and marketing advisors, as well as other farmers, to hone financial record keeping, analyze scenarios for scaling up their business, and write a strong business plan that reflects their goals. Farmers who complete Farming for Wholesale are eligible to submit their business plan to compete for an implementation grant of up to $50,000. South Paw is also a participant in the Maine Soil Health Network, a new project for farmers to learn which soil health practices work for their farm, and connect them to a network of other farms across the region to share resources and information.
A note about our 2021 events:
We’re excited to host in-person events again this summer and we can’t wait to see you at one of our farm parties! All of our events will be held in accordance with current CDC guidelines. Events will be outside and on farms — come prepared for Maine weather and wear practical farm footwear. Attendance is limited and we ask that guests register in advance. Many of our events will have a small ticket fee to help us cover costs.
We look forward to seeing you there!
