From the potato harvest in Aroostook County, to the innovations of a seventh-generation farmer Downeast, to the struggles of a dairy farmer in Central Maine, the short films in Meet Your Farmer (2010) remind viewers that farming is more than just a historical feature of Maine; farming in Maine is alive and well.

TIDE MILL ORGANIC FARM

Now into their ninth generation on a beautiful swath of the coast in Edmunds, Maine, the Bell family has an unbelievably diverse operation, from chicken and beef to vegetables and dairy.

REED FARM

A passionate and colorful dairy farmer in Windsor confronts the challenge of passing along the craft to his children.

SANDY RIVER FARMS

Bussie York and his family run a diverse operation in Western Maine. Primarily a dairy farm for many years, they have recently branched out into growing and selling various grains, including soybeans, oats, and wheat.

HORSEPOWER FARM

A fixture in Maine agriculture for decades, Paul Birdsall is still farming on the Blue Hill Peninsula at Horsepower Farm. His son and grandson are poised to carry on the tradition at Horespower Farm.

CHASE FARM

The Chase family started farming in Waldo County in the 1972, and have since diversified their business to include a successful restaurant and farmers’ market, Chase’s Daily.

AYOTTE FARMS

Located in Hamlin, Maine, just across the St. John River from Canada, Scott Ayotte’s potato farm produces millions of pounds of potatoes a year.

LAKESIDE ORCHARDS

At Lakeside Orchards and its sister orchard, The Apple Farm, Marilyn and Steve Meyerhans have weathered the changes in the apple business for more than two decades.

BROADTURN FARM

As the proprietors of Broadturn Farm in Scarborough, Maine, Stacy Brenner and John Bliss have their hands full with a busy CSA business.
